Is now the time to repeal the state property tax?

A collection of 21 business groups have joined together to push for the permanent repeal the state equalization tax.  While this plan to save $250 million in taxes definitely helps those business groups, the real question is:  does it help the rest of Arizona?

That is $250 million towards our $3 billion deficit.  Now, they’ll cry and whine about how its going to hurt business in Arizona, and in the long-run, it probably would.  However, is it right to be giving out more breaks right now?

Could they deal with a few years of this tax before a permanent repeal?  No one should be rewarded for going to the capitol right now without something they are willing to give up or at least a little skin in the game.

Times are too tough to be picking winners and losers right now.
