“Cuts alone cannot solve this problem.”

At a forum today regarding budget issues, Speaker of the House Kirk Adams finally admits what we have been saying all along:

“Cuts alone cannot solve this problem.”

So basically, what it comes down to is that the Republican leadership and the Governor agree on the $1 billion needed in cuts, the $1 billion needed in stimulus funds.  What it comes down to is that they don’t agree on how to fill the remaining $1 billion hole.

Adams and Burns would rather borrow instead of considering tax increases.  However, when they talk about “spreading out the burden” what they really mean is “placing the burden on someone else in the future.”

How long do they think the borrowing will take to pay back?  How is this any different than the plan that Governor Napolitano offered a few months back that was widely panned as a “gimmick?”  How can these guys worry about their long term political plans when there may not be much of a state to represent in the future?
