Things are getting worse, not better

As our state becomes unseasonably hot, the chances of fixing this budget crisis continue to grow colder.  Pretty soon, we are going to be able to keep our freezer doors closed, and just go down near the legislature to cool off.

First, Arizona doesn’t really have that far it can go to improve the tax system.  Columnist Robert Robb admits that even if there is more to be done, it wouldn’t be a very politically viable option.  Well, that’s helpful.  How do the anti-tax folks read that one and still figure there is some magical source they can use to get money?

Next, even some of the people who were willing to consider all options to fix the budget are now backing off and changing their mind.  Representative Michelle Reagan now says that she wouldn’t refer a tax to the ballot, but she doesn’t say what she would do to fix the $3 billion hole.

And what do we get for all of this bad news?  A daily bill to the taxpayers for $10,000 for the legislature’s inaction.  What a treat!

Doesn't this remind you of the budget?
