This school brought to you by…

Don’t think that schools are having a hard time making ends meet?  Well, maybe this will change your mind.  Now, schools have the ability sell ads in their buildings and on their websites.

So look forward to your local high school brought to you by Tampax or your friends over at Visa, offering a free tee-shirt for a credit card.  Or even better, can’t wait until a church wants to advertise or maybe Planned Parenthood.

For those of you who are asking, whatever happened to the good ol’ fashioned “bake sale,” the answer is simple:  the hole is far too deep for a few cookies to fix.  This isn’t a few dollars to make sure that a kid can go on a ski trip – this is making sure that teachers get to keep their jobs and there won’t be 40 kids in a classroom next year.

I’m all for school reform and there are a lot of things that need to be done differently and much better.  However, I am also realistic and know that all of those reforms can’t be done over night, nor will they save as much money as people claim.  We need long term secure funding for education, and if that means advertising, so be it, but it is a shame that it has come to this.
